Home Trends Sweeping America

Article from the San Diego Union Tribune - July 12, 2014

Over the years, McCullough Design Development (MDD) has defined the art of design and custom building.  They stay true to the innovative home trends sweeping America, such as transitional multi-use spaces, indoor-outdoor living, centrally connected kitchens, and more contemporary finishes.  All of this has earned them a top spot on San Diego’s list of Premier Design-Build Firms.

When it comes to building a custom home, they have taken a complicated process and streamlined it into an enjoyable experience for their clients.  “We were always so amazed and appreciative of the entire team effort of all MDD staff and subcontractors. It was wonderful being able to walk through various models to truly visualize new concepts, rooms, and use of space in the final product,” states client, Nancy Harasciuk.    Based on vast experience and knowledge in working with clients, their homes feature the latest, most requested and sought after designs and amenities.

One of the favorite characteristics of a McCullough home design is the centrally connected kitchen, which is the heart of the home.   MDD’s state of the art kitchen opens to the great room and large cafe nook where friends and family gather to build lifelong relationships.  The oversized pantries, sitting behind the main kitchen wall, become secondary kitchens in many homes, keeping the main kitchen looking orderly and uncluttered. They have progressed towards use of solid surface quartz countertops because of its stain resistance, bacteriostatic protection and maintenance-free properties, showing MDD pays attention to small details.

The forgotten living and dining rooms have been rejuvenated and are now found outside, beneath covered verandas, giving access to San Diego’s temperate climate year round.  A kitchen completes the outdoor scene, some as large as the main kitchen, with outdoor sinks, dishwashers, refrigerators, BBQs, and island seating.    These areas are accessed through disappearing flush track doors to provide a seamless flow of indoor-outdoor living.  Their newer homes are being defined by transitional, contemporary clean lines, smooth surfaces, and metallic accents.

As their client’s needs change, their homes transition with them.  Today’s new homeowners are so practical that MDD is seeing a growing trend for multi-use spaces.  Mudrooms, kitchen sculleries, and small offices are often incorporated off the kitchen or garage, near the central hub of the home.   A bonus room can be used for a theater, game, media, workout, or extra bedroom.   MDD’s reputation rests on building comfortable homes with the latest high-tech features that are built timely and within their client’s targeted budget.

MDD’s project work load is a healthy mix of both speculative and custom homes; currently having 27 homes in design or under construction in San Diego County, including areas of Del Mar Mesa, Santaluz, Poway, and Encinitas.

MDD’s seven home Seascape project in Encinitas displays dramatic sit-down ocean views, with four homes under construction.  Each 4 bed, 4.5 bath, home ranges 4,250-5,170 sq.ft. and is now available for presale.  Visit Lori at the site this Sunday, July 13th 1-5 pm.

Many of McCullough’s standard features are found in their latest completed home at the Heritage Estates in Poway.  This beautiful move-in ready, single level, 5,090 sq.ft., 4 bed, 4.5 bath home, located along the Maderas Golf course, is now being offered at $1.895M!  Open House this Sunday, July 13th, 12-5 pm.

McCullough Design Development’s showcase home at Gables Crossing in Del Sur is open weekdays from 9-4 pm and Sundays from 12-5 pm.  For more information contact Lori McCullough with Real Living Lifestyles 858-431-9622 or www.mddhomes.com.
