McCullough Design Development is on the leading edge of new home designs, floorplans and construction. They start by designing smaller single story estate homes that are hard to find in today’s new home market. As economic conditions have changed, so have people’s lifestyles and choices. Large formal rooms that are rarely used in San Diego’s climate are quickly being eliminated and replaced with covered outdoor living rooms with fireplaces and outdoor kitchens. “It’s not that people can’t find estate homes in the $1 million market, people can’t find estate homes they want to buy and live in,” comments Monty McCullough, the lead designer of the McCullough team. “There are several so called 'good deals' on the market today, but our clients understand that settling for a two-story home they have to heat and cool with formal rooms they will never use is not such a 'good deal' anymore.”

How It Works
MDD custom designs homes and floorplans tailor suited for each of their
individual lots, then puts together an exact construction cost to build that home on that lot.(Most of their homes are 4,000 to 6,000 sq ft being built for approximately $185-215/sq ft depending on lot, home size, and location.) They also offer this same service on lots that their clients buy in other locations, such as Santaluz, Del Mar, Poway and so on. But what makes this company truly unique is their ability to tweak and redesign floorplans to meet their client’s design and budget needs. In short, they design and build to a budget. They do this by having 3 architectural designers on staff, making this whole process come together. Their clients praise them for delivering on all of the amenities on time and on budget. It is no wonder these guys are busy.
How They Design
They start by listening to what the market wants. Kitchens, nooks, and family rooms, where people spend most of their time, are larger than in other estate homes. They specialize in entertainment sized kitchens, large walk-in pantries, 400 sq ft + family rooms, café nooks large enough to sit fourteen, and all three rooms open and integrated with each other. Eliminating either the formal dining/living room or both frees up square footage for a large covered outdoor living area connected to the kitchen/nook/family room through French doors or optional disappearing French doors. They design secondary bedrooms as full suites, large enough for queen size bedroom sets, all capped off with a fully landscaped yard and
4-car garage.
