Tips on making a house a Home

What makes a house a home?  In recent years the definition has shifted away from formality to comfort . Pictured below is a great room with plenty of seating, from an oversized sofa to padded dining room chairs or bar stools.  Solid Wood flooring adds a rich look while the carpeting is soft and inviting .  A home needs to be as welcoming as it is beautiful.  Here, rich, warm colors and seating that can be easily rearranged attribute to a welcoming, versatile room .     Every room should function effortlessly. Below, comfortable furniture with alternate walkways allows traffic flow and functionality .   Furniture should be scaled to suit the space and often times needs to be versatile and flexible.  In a small space like a bedroom, it is important for it to look cozy and yet uncluttered.  Choose pieces that fit the size of the room and open up the space like these upholstered open-arm chairs. McCullough Design Development designs and builds Homes to be

Another Finished Home for Sale at Gables Crossing!

Homes like this really haven't come around very often in the past few years due to our custom design-build program, but we have another finished home for sale at Gables Crossing in Del Sur!  This beautiful 4,800 sq ft home was built in 2007 by the Award Winning McCullough-Ames Development.  The home is 4 Bedroom, 4-1/2 Bath with 4-car garage.  Let's take a closer look...   The family room is central to the home and part of the great room, but distinct with its open wood beam ceiling. The gourmet kitchen is full of high-end appliances and natural stone counterops, perfect for entertaining guests or cooking up a family dinner.   This home does have a formal entry room to greet guests. The luxurious master bath has plenty of room for two! The master bedroom is spacious, with 10 ft cielings (here and throughout the home) and leads to a resort-like back yard.   The front courtyard has a fireplace and water feature, a perfect place to relax in t

Single Level Homes

(Excerpt from the Union Tribune on September 1st.) McCullough Design Development Focuses on the Single Story Home   Single level homes have been McCullough Design Development’s forte for many years now. In today’s market, rates are better than they have ever been, however home inventories are in short supply and the availability of single story homes is at a record low.   Larger lots are rare, with builders building on small lots with high land prices, forcing them to increase the square footage by building two-story homes.   Recognizing the buyer’s needs, MDD is scouring San Diego for larger lots allowing them to build beautiful single level homes with plenty of room for the living, yard, and garage space that the market desires. Located at the Gables Crossing development in Del Sur, MDD’s model home showcases the highly sought after single story estate home.   Architecturally ideal for everyday living, they focus their designs on where people spend most of their time.

Wrought Iron

The term "wrought iron" might be conjuring images of the Eiffel Tower, but you can add that same beautifully structured awe to your home.  The word "wrought" is an archaic form of the word "to work," so "wrought iron" actually means "worked iron".  Pieces of ornamental worked iron can be used on fireplaces and doors to add refinement and beauty.      Below are two fireplace covers with rich detail that show magnificently against the glow of a fire.         Here, entire doors are fashioned, one with only wrought iron that leads into a wine room and the other combined with glass into the wood frame of the door to a home office.       Reminiscent of speakeasy days, a wrought iron grate covering a closable window on a front door adds character and style.      As always, when designing a home with McCullough Design Development, the possibilities don't end there!  Add wrought irons fences,

Stay tuned! Contact Lori at lori@mddhomes.com for more information!

Cabanas

Cabanas are structures that provide shade and refuge on a scorching summer day and can be a great addition to a pool area. In San Diego, where the weather is practically perfect year round, you might as well take advantage of the out doors.  Cabanas can be built with endless options!  Add walls, curtains or just keep it open and breezy.  Put in a private bathroom and shower, a wet bar with bar stools, or fill it with lounge chairs or patio funiture for comfortable dining.  When you build a custom home with McCullough Design Development, we design and build a home that suits your needs and lifestyle.  For more information on building a home with MDD, visit our website at www.mddhomes.com !
