A Fond Farewell

McCullough Design Development is packing their (model home) bags and moving to Encinitas for the winter!  For a short time, MDD will be focusing on their Seascape development, located on an ocean-view ridgeline in Encinitas!  Join us in January 2015 for our grand opening, but until then we look back at our time in Del Sur...

In 2006 Monty McCullough and his team started building a community of custom homes on a little street off of Camino Del Sur and Artesian Road in Black Mountain Ranch's Del Sur, in what soon came to be known as Gables Crossing.

MDD continued to build steadily in Gables Crossing during the housing market boom and subsequent fall.  Moving from one model home to the next, we built out the street and onto the next!  We worked out of several model homes and loved each and every one!
It is a wonderful area that we are proud to have been a part of and we will miss the community of wonderful homeowners whose lives we have been lucky to be a part of!

Transitional Fireplace Surrounds

Construction is still underway at our Seascape Project in Encinitas and we excited about the Grand Opening of our new model home there in January 2015.
As the interiors are leaning toward a more transitional look, the fireplace surrounds are integral to manipulate the look of the rest of the home.  So far, we have put in one simple precast and one wall of ledge stone hung vertically!  They are both unique and look fantastic.  Be sure to mark your calendar for January to see these in person!

Well-Built Homes

There is something about a well-built home; a feeling of grace, sophistication, and sheer expertise is apparent when there is pride in the work. At McCullough Design Development, our homes are laced with evidence of high quality design and attention to detail, ensuring our clients receive the highest value for their home.  We’ve taken the latest ideas and most requested aspects from our custom home portfolio and have incorporated these design elements, along with expert craftsmanship, and have built it all into our inventory of finished homes. One such home is located at the Heritage in Poway, along the Maderas Golf Course. This beautiful single level, 5,090 sq.ft., estate home has 4 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, and a 4-car garage. The cottage style exterior has shutter and corbel details, boosted roof tiles, and stone veneer accents, reminding you of something out of a story book.Exceptionally landscaped, it has colored concrete driveway and pavers leading up to the home’s entryway.Inside, yo…

You know what we did last Summer?

Our busy summer is coming to an end!  We have been finishing up some homes, knee deep in construction on others, and just breaking ground on a few too.  Take a look...

I can never get enough of a home being framed.
It is amazing that it all starts with a concrete foundation and some wood! Here the trusses have arrived and will be loaded after the walls have been sheared.   On another project, we are finishing the roof and preparing the home for the color coat of stucco.

On this home, the bi-color stucco is complete.
We are excited about this new look!

Finally, this is a picture of our newest completed home.
It is gorgeous inside and out! Designing and building homes is such an exciting process and we love what we do!  Find out if we are the right design/build company for your next home.  Visit us at

If you have visited Gables Crossing, you have seen the beautiful old world, traditional, almost French Country style homes with high pitched roofs and stone veneer that line the streets.  People often wonder if that is all we do.  The answer is of course not!  As a custom design-build company we incorporate the client's needs, wants, likes, and budget into a home that fits them personally!    Exterior design style, color, and materials (including roofing, stucco, stone, grout, driveway pavers, concrete, windows, and lighting) are chosen by the customer (within the guidelines of the city and HOA of the particular development).

Interiors can include anything your heart desires and your wallet can afford!  Here is a sleek lined, modern kitchen with smooth surfaces and stark coloring.
This family room has plenty of natural light, with a simple box fireplace surrounded by a full tiled wall.
