How We Build Your Dream Home - Part 9

Our home is coming right along!  At this point the house has been stuccoed on the outside and interior walls painted on the inside.  We are on to Step 9 in building your dream home – Installing interior doors, closets and tile (for showers, floors and fireplaces).

The finish carpenters are busy!  They are installing and staining all interior doors.  The interior doors that come standard in our Gables Crossing development are 1-3/4” solid alder, 2-panel doors.  The doors found in our model are of knotted alderwood, however there are a variety of styles, shapes, stains and textures to choose from.

The open beam ceiling gets stained along with the doors and door frames.

The finish carpenter is also installing all closet shelving at this time.  Our basic closet shelving consists of 50% double shelf & pole, 25% shelving and 25% single shelf and pole.  This makes a perfect combination of space for shirts and blouses, folded items, and long pants or dresses.  The closet shelving applies not only to the master bedroom, but to secondary bedroom closets as well.

Tile!  A lot of the tile work in the home is being done now.  In the bathroom, the interiors of the showers are lathed to provide a latticework of texture for tiles to adhere to.

Shower tile size, shade, and design are chosen by the client.  We install it all, from intricate mosaics of colored glass to classic large natural stone tiles or a mixture of both.

The main areas of the home that get tile (such as the kitchen) are usually tiled with straight lay of 18”x18” travertine tiles.  12”x12” travertine tiles are usually used in the bathrooms.  Again there are a variety of tile floors to choose from.

The tile around the fireplace opening is installed at this time as well as the matching stone hearth cap and mantle.  A wooden mantle is stained or painted to match molding, baseboards and doorstains.

(Tile backsplashes will be discussed later, after the countertops have been installed.)

As we continue to build our dream home, you get an idea about the possibilities of getting exactly what you want!  Light or dark wood stains, natural, exotic or stark tile color and style all add to your home's unique character and feel.
