As Fireproof as they come!

I love the fall, but in San Diego, we recognize it to be fire season.  In Del Sur we have already had our first fire scare!  Here at McCullough Design Development, we build quality custom homes in the most fireproof manner possible.  Here are some of the things we are doing to reduce the likelihood of one of our homes catching fire.

Our roof tiles are usually made of concrete, which are Class A fire rated, meaning they are effective against severe fire test exposure, the most stringent rating available for exterior fire resistance. (Concrete roof tiles are long lasting, can sustain winds in excess of 125 miles per hour and have a class 3 hail resistance rating as well!)

Our eaves (the lower edges of the roof that project beyond the walls) are made of solid stucco and there is no wood trim on the exterior of our homes to easily ignite.

Our homes are built "slab on grade" meaning the foundation of concrete slab is set into the ground leaving no space between the ground and the structure.  This eliminates subfloor ventilation which often allows a fire to spread quickly to engulf a home.  (Other advantages of the slab technique are that it is sturdy and is considered less vulnerable to termite infestation because there are no hollow spaces or wood channels leading from the ground to the structure.)

Our attic vents are O'Hagin vents with an interior stainless matrix/mesh that resists the intrusion of flames and burning embers. These pictures show a roof being laid and some of the vents in the finished roof.

We want your home to last and so we do our best to build beautiful, quality homes without exterior elements that could easily catch fire.  For more information on building a home with us, see our website at http://www.mddhomes.com/!
