Solatubes - Let the Sun Shine In

All those sunny days in San Diego make it a great place to have solatubes in the home.  Solatubes or Solar Tubes are tubular daylighting devices that bring natural light into interior spaces where windows or traditional skylights can't reach (great for interior closets, bathrooms, and long hallways).  They use reflective material inside of a cylinder to help amplify the light into the room below, letting in the natural light and reducing the need for electricity.

Here are some solatubes being installed in one of our homes.

These Solatubes have a domed top or lens.

Inside the house is the diffuser portion.

Here you can see the solatube in a hallway which would otherwise be dark at this point in construction!

Similar hallway that is finished.

If you look closely, you can see the solatubes on the finished roof.

Here you can see the canned lighting compared to the larger solatubes in the kitchen.

Most tubes are designed to reduce glare and also screen infrared and ultraviolet rays that can fade interiors and overheat the home.

Solatubes are just one of the ways we can make your home cost effective and energy efficient.  For more information on building a custom estate home with McCullough Design Development, visit our website at www.mddhomes.com!
