With MDD's unique custom "design and build" program, we get many people asking, “How does it work? What are the steps in building a house?”
Once grading is complete, we chalk the home. Chalking the home sounds like exactly what it is. Chalk is used to draw a precise and accurate map of the home that indicates the foundation of the home and the footings, as well as the plumbing and electrical lines.

Building your own home is such an exciting experience! We thought we would walk you through the process of building your dream home with us.
PART 1 - Preparation - Designing, Planning, Chalking and Digging
Our number one priority is for us to build something you love. We make sure you are with us every step of the way in designing and building your custom estate home. Once your Lot of land has been purchased, you meet with one of our on staff architectural designers. With your list of needs and wants in mind, we provide example floor plans that can be customized to fit your lifestyle and pocket book. Floor plans are tweaked and room sizes and configurations are adjusted so that your home fits your needs.
With all of the features and amenities calculated in, we come up with a budget and timeline that we deliver on.
Once the nitty-gritty of financing is out of the way, the design is in place and all of the permits have been acquired, the land has to be leveled and graded.
Grading in construction is the work of ensuring a level base for a foundation. Also considered at this time are the specifications of not only the foundation, but the footings, slope and stabilization, aesthetic contouring and drainage - especially surface runoff and drainage from stormwater.
Once grading is complete, we chalk the home. Chalking the home sounds like exactly what it is. Chalk is used to draw a precise and accurate map of the home that indicates the foundation of the home and the footings, as well as the plumbing and electrical lines.
The concrete team digs footings. Footings are usually embedded a meter or so into the soil and consist of strips or pads of concrete which extend below the surface and transfer the weight from walls and columns to the soil or bedrock.

At this time we have officials from the city inspecting the underground plumbing and sewer connection. The Gas and Electric company give us the final word on where to dig for gas, electric, television, telephone lines, etc.
We are just getting started, so stay tuned for more information on how we build your dream home!
