How We Build Your Dream Home - Part 6


Part 6 - There is so much going on inside your dream home right now!  We are going to briefly discuss a potpourri of items including, Exterior Doors, Fire sprinklers, Hot mop, Insulation, & Drywall!

The windows are already in, but we need to install the exterior doors.  This consists of slider doors and front doors.  Interior and garage doors are installed later.   If you choose French swinging doors, we install Thermatrue fiberglass French doors so the home can eventually look like this: 
 

Sliding French doors can have wood or metal clad skidding door systems.
  

 Many people upgrade to lift-and-slide disappearing French doors by Weiland, custom built for large exterior openings to transition from indoors to out. 
 

These doors open and slide into the walls to eventually look like this:


Our basic front doors are custom designed of solid alder with sidelights.  This door is in the process of being installed.
 
Most of our door hardware and hinges are from Emtek.

All of our homes have fire sprinkler systems installed as per city and fire department requirements.  These are installed followed by a hydro inspection of the sprinkler system. This inspection will include pipe size, bracing, sprinkler head location, spacing, and insulation. Before any drywall is installed, water is introduced into the sprinkler system and the system pressurized. A signed “Hydrostatic Test Certification” form is then given to the fire inspector.

Plumbers are setting tubs into bathrooms at this point – after the plumbing and before the drywall. 

Hot Mop of showers also happens during this time.  Hot Mop is a waterproofing system made from liquid heated tar and three layers of roofing grade felt. The heated tar is applied to the shower pan and fully seals, waterproofs, and protects much better than a shower pan liner and increases the life expectancy of the shower pan.


After the electrical inspection, insulation can be put in.  McCullough Design insulates all walls of the home instead of just outside walls.  Insulation is rated with R-values.  The US Department of Energy has recommended R-values for given areas of the United States based on the general local energy costs for heating and cooling, as well as the climate of an area. We use “energy star” compliant R-30 insulation at all ceilings, R-19 at all exterior walls, and R-11 at all interior walls or according to requirements.

After the insulation, the drywall can be hung.  We use 5/8” thick drywall throughout with ¾” bullnose at the corners.  At tile backing where there is increased moisture, we use DensShield Tile Backer which integrates a moisture-resistant core with fiberglass mats and a unique heat-cured acrylic coating resulting in built-in moisture and microbial barriers.

As you can see, we are concerned about quality workmanship and supplies when it comes to the homes we build.
