How We Build Your Dream Home - Part 10

Step 10 - Picking up where we left off in building our dream home, we will discuss a little bit more about masonry work and rain gutters!  (Because who doesn't like a good rain gutter?)

A few postings ago I had described the process of stuccoing our homes.  Along with that I mentioned a little bit about the use of stone veneer as a unique feature of many of our homes.  The masons are not only working on exterior stone veneer of the home, but also stone fireplaces walls and hearths (indoor and outdoor) as well as stone walls.

As described before, the veneer is typically 1 inch thick and must weigh less than 15 lbs per square foot so that no additional structural supports will be required.  Clients have the option of stone veneer made from natural stone or manufactured stone.  Often we use Eldorado stone which is beautifully manufactured to replicate the look of natural stone but is more affordable and easier to work with.

Along with a lot of masonry work, now is the time to install rain gutters.  We use seamless metal rain gutters to ensure that runoff stays away from stucco and foundation and to ensure your home is dry and protected.  “Seamless” gutters are continuous, which make them strong and visually more appealing, although, there are seams at the corners and downspouts. These joints are fastened securely and sealed for stability and leak resistance. Of the main types of gutters - box, half-round and K-style, we usually use 5” K gutters with 3” round downspouts, all colored to match the stucco as closely as possible.

Here are some beautiful pictures of our homes with stone veneer and rain gutters (if you look closely!).
